Mortal Kombat is a series that is widely known for its over-the-top and gruesome fatalities. Mortal Kombat 11 is easily the most visually impressive fighting game of all time, possessing some of the most detailed and lifelike character models in the genre's history. While this overly detailed nature has its pros and cons, it works well with the game's grim art direction and progressively brutal fatalities. As the game features a roster made up of characters from the Dragon Ball Z franchise, not is every character animated in a way that looks straight out of the anime, but the game features countless nods and references to the source material via the game's animation and posing.

Few anime fighting games are as beautiful and faithful to the original source material as Dragonball FIghterZ, and it's a noteworthy entry for fans of the series. First released in , Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a fighting game spin-off of the Granblue series and is another visually stunning fighter developed by Arc System Works. With visuals that faithfully bring the characters of Granblue to life in a stylized fashion, the game's combat is visually impressive - to go one step further, the game also aesthetically shines in its cinematic super moves.

A 2D fighter that was first released in , Skullgirls has an impressive distinction, with every single unique character in its roster being hand-drawn and traditionally animated. This brings each of the characters to life in remarkable fashion, pairing well with the game's dark-deco art direction and standing out from every other fighting game on the market. If viewed while slowed down, the game's extraordinary hand-drawn sprites truly shine, with many sprites featuring subtle nods and references to other fighting games and anime.

One of the more recent fighting games developed by Arc System Works, in addition to being an outstanding fighter in its own right, Guilty Gear Strive is one of the most visually impressive specimens in the entire genre. Now the 2D vs. I wanna make a fighting game! Hi, just a 2 cent, I wish lots of great luck!

I second everything that was said here and will share my opinion I am indie game developer outside US making a 3D fighting game alone that uses 2.

As such, other fighting games do not warrant their time or dollars. Tekken 7 is last ditch. The most important point, if you want to make a new fighting game, in my mind, is working on Game Design and balancing it. What is the 3D engine used? Think about it — Street Fighter — can be summed in one word : Ryu.

All these elements converge to make a solid fighting game. It was quite the extenive post, thanks for your opinion. The game velocity is similar to Tekken so, moderately slow. Story mode plays like a visual novel with fights in-between; I also implemented character profiles and a character model viewer.

I agree with most of your comments, though, but in my case I did it all out of passion! I wanted to create a game since I was 8 years old and going to elementary school. If so, can you give me a link to check it? Actually nearly ever big fighting game nowadays is using Unreal. Capcom: Infinite and some more. I think the main reason for that is that Unreal has a very solid animation system.

I agree with you. The fighting system etc is still using the same code as the Tekken games prior to Tekken 7. Can you link me some references? I look forward to your next article. I come from a programming background so I am most worried about the assets and animation. I think I could learn to draw something simple and maybe make a sprite sheet, but I am not sure if I can come up with something of decent quality. I think I might go that route unless I can get access to some motion capture equipment somehow, because 3D animations really need to look fluid, and I highly doubt I would be able to do that manually.

Might look cool if you could do a good set of basic poses, but then have really rough sketch assets. By using this form you agree with the storage and handling of your data by this website.
