Review microsoft security essentials 2010

MSE performs better than any paid anti-virus without fanfare, silently and efficiently. Their installation was the easiest ever. I would recommend it to every one who runs a Windows operating system. God bless the pros from Microsoft! I just removed the latest AVG from my laptop ver 11, paid version. My laptop was just grinding down! The hard disk was constantly thrashing, and well things looked very sluggish. Turns out the fine folks at AVG decided to include somekind of utility that constantly accesses the harddisk a cache of some sort , to the detriment of the program.

Too bad, AVG used to be pretty good. I've now installed MSE and my laptop is running back to normal speeds. Imagine that, MS comes up with a killer AV! I've worked in the field for years and have never seen this program stop anything but minor malware. I have however seen it block or disable certain basic computer functionality. I tell my customers to not install it. It is unreal that you tell people not to install Malwarebytes or other companion scanners.

To rely solely on Security Essentials is foolish. I believe that is giving people a false sense of security. Does anyone realize that that Microsoft writes its OS with security holes that Security Essentials is supposed help with? MS should stick to writing a better OS free from constant holes and security patches.

A small icon in the task bar is the only sign that MSE is installed and running, and it changes colour depending on the risk to your PC.

MSE will automatically run a quick scan once a week, although we'd recommend changing the default 2am on Sunday to a time when your PC is likely to be turned on. We'd recommend leaving real-time protection on - it won't use too much power or add significant latency to downloads, and will reduce the risk of downloading malware inadvertently.

Other tools built into MSE let you tune it to exclude specific files and locations from scanning, as well as specific file types and even specific processes. You're better off not changing these settings, since it's impossible to predict how malware may disguise itself or what zero-day attacks they might use. A custom scan will check specific files, folders, or drives, while a full scan will check everything on your PC. We'd suggest sticking with quick scans for everyday operation, which look for common malware and check system files.

The advanced options in MSE's Settings tab enable you to include removable drives in scans, to protect flash drives as well as your system disks.

Also, it is pleasing to the eyes with a very easy to use Grahpical User Interface that even my grandmother could use. I do try to extensively test software before recommending ti for clients. Most antivirus and security software are quiet obnoxious, with ugly interfaces and unnecessary alerts, Microsoft Security Essentials is the opposite of all that, is one of those few software that just do what they are suppose to do, and that just what you want in an antivirus and security software.

MSE is both an antivirus and antispyware, so you don't need to install a bunch of security softwares to protect your PC, that makes your computer run really smooth, beside the fact that MSE don't consume a considerable amount of memory, so you almost don't notice it, even when the scan is running you can still use your computer as is nothing is happening, I even play games when the scan is running and I can't notice a difference in performance.

The malware databese is updated really frequent so you don't need to worry about catching some "new" virus. Another thing is that you don't need to be a high tech user to know what to do when MSE catch a malware, the options are straight forward. Is easy to modify the scan schedules, the same way go to modify what you want MSE to do in case a malware is detected, the default preference are the way to go but if you don't like them you can change it in a few clicks.

What a great product! It is not just anti-virus, but anti-malware and anti-spyware. I've paid for Norton and McAfee in the past and didn't find that they were more protective than MSE, just more expensive. But don't get me wrong, free is good, but with out quality free doesn't mean a whole lot.

I would actually pay for MSE. I've also used other free products in the past, such as AVG, which I found to be not as protective and caused my computer to run slower.

Prior to using MSE, I used CA's Security Suite via being a RoadRunner customer and found that it seemed to many times cause my computer to lockup upon attempting to shutdown due to some type of error which I never figured out how to correct fully. MSE is what security for your computer should be.
